When installing version 1.4.1 the installer reports "The directory can not be written! Please choose another directory" This is despite the fact that I have permissions to create the directory. The workaround is to create the directory in advance in explorer, run the installer and specifiy the already created folder

Mark, it would appear that your problem is due to the way that Windows Vista doesn't give non-Windows executable files (e.g. self-extracting executable jar files) Administrative priviledges when they are run. Another work around it to launch a cmd window, elevate its priviledges (as described here) and then run the installer manually. I have amended the Windows Installation instructions.
